Wildlife Pond, Farnham

In this Farnham garden, the clients had an old pond that needed renovating. They wanted something much larger, bolder and more natural looking, with space for planting and the potential to encourage wildlife.

This gave us the opportunity to redesign and extend the pond into a striking new addition to the garden.

The new pond was built in a yin-yang shape, echoing the curves of existing flowerbeds. The design also incorporated a bog garden, fed directly from the pond, creating opportunities to grow moisture-loving plants such as Cannas and Sarracenia.

A bold renovation creating a pond and bog garden full of planting opportunities.

A range of shelf depths were included to accommodate different types of planting, from shallow marginals to deep-water species, adding variety and long-term interest.

We worked closely with a local pond specialist to ensure the filtration and pump system were carefully matched to the water volume and the flow into the bog garden. As the planting establishes, the pond will provide a valuable habitat for insects, amphibians and birds, while also enhancing the character of the wider garden. The bog garden planting will follow in spring 2026 to complete the project.
