Family Garden, Farnham

This family garden in Farnham was transformed from a simple lawn and undersized terrace into a versatile space that balances entertaining with everyday family life.

The design focused on extending the terrace to create distinct areas for dining and lounging, making the most of the sun throughout the day.

A porcelain patio was laid with more generous proportions, including cut-outs for planting and new borders along the fence to frame the garden with colour and texture.

Despite the addition of these new features, the design kept a wide expanse of lawn for the children to enjoy, ensuring the space works for the whole family.

A garden designed for family life - space to play, relax and entertain, all in harmony.

On the far side of the garden, pleached trees were planted alongside a contemporary grey slatted fence, offering both privacy and structure. New beds against the house help soften its appearance, drawing greenery closer to the property.

Planting was chosen in a calm, soft palette of purples, whites and greens, with subtle touches of orange from roses and geums to lift the scheme. Three elegant silver birch 'Jacquemontii' provide structure, echo the tones of the whitewashed house, and bring striking winter interest. The result is a family-friendly garden that feels both practical and uplifting.
